Test Results

Yesterday I had my glucose test to check for gestational diabetes. The nurse was in and out of my room all morning. They took my blood and then I had to drink this glucose orange drink. After finishing the drink they came back in every hour for three hours to draw more blood. I had to fast for this test....so lets just say I was getting very hungry by the time it was all said and done. The last time I had something to eat was the night before around eight and didn't eat again until around one yesterday. I don't think I will ever be able to go without eating :) My nurse came back in later that afternoon and gave me some wonderful news....I passed the test and can still eat what I want. She said I barely passed the test, so if I carry the babies for a while my doctor will want to test me again since it was close.

Later that afternoon around 4:30 I started to feel cramps and was just very uncomfortable. I thought maybe it would pass. After about ten minutes of it, I let my nurse know that I wasn't feeling so great. They hooked me up to the contraction monitor to see what was going on. After about forty-five minutes of monitoring my nurse came in and said she needed to give me a shot to stop the contractions. I was contracting every one to four minutes. This was the first time that I actually felt the contractions. The shot they give me for contractions usually works, but it makes me feel very jittery and feels like my heart is racing out of my chest. If the shot for some reason doesn't stop the contractions, they were going to start me on a Magnesium IV drip. My nurse said that is not fun because it will make me feel like crap. Luckily the shot worked!

This morning my doctor that is on call came in to check on me and said to just hang in there and keep laying around. I am now at risk she said for my membranes and water to rupture. Tonight there is a full moon and we are praying nothing happens. I will keep everyone updated. These babies could still use some time with me :)
